It’s simple. There are more than 3 million people in Orange County, putting up to 15 million pounds of solid waste in the landfills every day. How much garbage is that? Picture enough to fill up the entire Rose Bowl – once every 45 days!
But here’s the thing: up to 10% of what we throw away – paper coffee cups, plastic bags, food waste and the like – could be kept out of the landfill altogether.
REDUCING – Or in other words, finding ways to not buy stuff. Like installing a water filter on your faucet instead of buying bottled water. You’ll save money and space in the landfill.
REUSING – From reusable grocery bags to donating old clothes to making rich compost out of kitchen waste, there are so many ways to reuse things in your daily life.
RECYCLING – If it’s made of paper, plastic, glass, aluminum or steel, there’s a good chance your local recycling program can keep it out of the landfill by turning it into something else.
